RUSSIAN ART IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Authors: Sergei Reviakin, Edward Lucie-Smith Original Idea: Sergei Reviakin Language: English. There is a separate edition in Russian Hardcover, 24 x 30 cm 256 pages, 205 illustrations Publisher: Unicorn Publishing Group (1 December 2022) ISBN-10: ‎ 1913491722 ISBN-13: ‎ 978-1913491727 A rich analysis of the many facets of Russia’s contemporary art world. Russian art of the last two decades has been evolving rapidly and in many directions, but there is surprisingly little, and certainly nothing comprehensive, written about the contemporary Russian scene. Most reportage in the West covers so-called “dissidents” rather than actual goings-on in this vast culture, taken as a whole. Too often, these reports seem primarily inspired by a desire to demonstrate Western cultural and political superiority. The aim of Russian Art in the New Millennium is not to support any one cause, but to look at the situation as it now exists objectively, and to give as wide and truthful a view as possible. This volume covers digital art, landscape paintings, graffiti, religious art, and more, paying close attention to the continuing influence of the traditional centers for art—Moscow and St. Petersburg—while illuminating several provincial Russian cities that have developed distinctive art worlds of their own. Russian Art in the New Millennium attempts to discover this terra incognita while encompassing the widely varied but intensely national art scene in Russia in one volume.

OLEG KUDRYASHOV BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE

Authors: Christina Lodder, Edward Lucie-Smith, Igor Golomstock, Sergei Reviakin Original Idea: Sergei Reviakin Language: English Hardcover, 23 x 29 cm 304 pages, 210 illustrations, 155 photographs Publisher: Unicorn Publishing Group (15 May 2018) ISBN-10: ‎ 1910787795 ISBN-13: ‎ 978-1910787793 Oleg Kudryashov was born in Moscow in 1932, and, by the 1960s, he had established himself as one of the leading graphic artists in Moscow. But he never felt comfortable with the relationship of his work to official Soviet culture, and in 1973 he emigrated settling in London. He moved back to Moscow in 1998 where he passed away in 2022. In London and later in Moscow, Oleg quickly became recognized for the creativity and breadth of his work, which moved among paper reliefs, metal sculptures, and even film. This book gathers some of the best of Kudryashov’s work from throughout his career, much of it never before published. Taken together, this work presented here reveals an artist who is forever searching for a form to match his ideas, never settling, never satisfied—and always powerful in his effects.

Joe Machine is an artist with a remarkable life story. From a youth involved in petty crime, including a spell in Borstal, he has risen to be a much respected professional artist, with a strong commitment to helping others. The internationally known critic Edward Lucie-Smith compares him to William Blake, and also sees him as being in some respects comparable to Francis Bacon. He is one of a distinguished succession of important British artists who, from the early 19th century onwards, have made their way to success with little or no professional formation. This book offers a richly illustrated panorama of Joe Machine’s work, and demonstrates that he is still extending his range. His current themes are likely to resonate with spectators well beyond the shores of Great Britain.

THE RUSSIAN EXPERIMENT CONTINUES- RUSSIAN AVANT- GARDE ART OF THE 1950s - 1970s

THE RUSSIAN EXPERIMENT CONTINUES: RUSSIAN AVANT- GARDE ART OF THE 1950s - 1970s

Authors: Sergei Reviakin Language: English Paperback, 15 x 22 cm 88 pages Publisher: LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing (9 August 2010) ISBN-10: ‎383837925X ISBN-13: ‎ 978-3838379258 The following dissertation attempts to deal with the subject of the unofficial Russian art of the 1960s and its avant-garde role in the development of Russian art as a whole as well as its intrinsic links with tradition and the first Russian Avant-Garde at the beginning of the 20th century. It consists of a brief history of Russian art for a better understanding of its historical links and European influences. It then approaches the first Russian Avant-Garde of the 20th century, mentions the reasons for its decline and triumph of Socialist Realism and explores the second Russian Avant-Garde of the 1960s. It studies the works of the three important artists of the period whose examples were also used to show their milieu and the origins of the ideas of the Avant-Garde of the 1960s and to evoke the atmosphere of the period. The most significant art movements and groups of the 1960s and 1970s are also described. The role of the art of the 1960s is evaluated in the Conclusion.
